Alcatel OT-222 Mobile Phone Review – A Cheap, Basic Mobile With a Few Pleasant Surprises

There are many reasons why you might want a cheap phone; perhaps you’re looking for something to use while saving up for a more expensive phone, or maybe you just want something to keep in the car for emergencies. Regardless of your reasons, finding an affordable phone that isn’t a complete waste of plastic can be quite difficult indeed. Fortunately, the Alcatel OT-222 happens to be suitably cheap while still providing you with a few basic needs.

Appearance:

Unlike many budget phones, the Alcatel doesn’t feel cheap or flimsy in the hand. Its sleek, polished appearance and bright LED light on the back makes it look much more expensive than it really is.  Available in sophisticated black or saucy red, it’s sure to attract a few eyes. It’s small enough to slip easily into a pocket or purse, and at 71g, it’s fairly light as well.

Unfortunately, its screen is ultra tiny as well at only 1.5 inches. However, it’s also fairly bright and crisp, so it isn’t so small that it should hinder your user experience any. Also bright and beautiful is its blue back light, which makes the numbers on its keypad glow attractively. Our only nitpick about its design overall was that opening and closing it felt somewhat unsteady, as if the clasp might break.

Its user interface is fairly easy to figure out. Its myriad of shortcut buttons also helps enormously in navigating its tiny screen as well as keeping everything organized. There are a few odd inconsistencies regarding usability, but overall the phone seems free of bugs and glitches.

Sound:

Unfortunately, its sound quality is fairly dim. Matters aren’t helped any by the fact that you’re stuck with the headphones it gives you, which aren’t very good at all. Even more baffling is the alternative: a headset with only one ear bud. Its FM radio does little to alleviate this.

Internet Connectivity:

When it comes to keeping connected, the Alcatel provides you with quadband technology, GPRS, SMS capabilities, predictive texting, and little else. However, given its price, its little surprise that this phone is good for little else besides texting. If that’s the sort of phone you want, you very well may decide you’re better off without the bells and whistles of more expensive mobiles.

Memory and Talk Time:

Users will be pleasantly surprised to find that the Alcatel’s battery life is superb, allowing you 400 hours of standby and 7 hours of talk time, which is absolutely perfect if you decide to use this phone sparingly. Its memory storage isn’t quite so impressive, with no capacity for a microSD slot. However, with so little to work with, it’s likely you won’t need a lot of memory to begin with.

Verdict:

With so much missing from the Alcatel OT-222, it may seem hard to believe that it’s a quality phone. However, what it does have is definitely top notch; it’s stellar appearance, straightforward user interface, and easy texting make this perfect for users who want a simple, no nonsense phone at a price they can afford.

With a sense of huge profit, Alcatel continues create mobilephones and most of them are cheap and practical. Even though Alcatel phones are cheap, you can still bring down the cost by getting mobile phone deals online as they offer great discounts and advantageous plans.
